Rubber plantation manager shot dead

July 31, 2012

KOTA BARU, July 31 — A rubber plantation manager, who stepped out of his house in Jeli to take a call late last night, was gunned down in cold blood.

Tuan Asmadi Tuan Ya, 38, who sustained a single gunshot wound below his left eye, died on the spot.

The incident occurred outside the victim’s quarters in Ladang Gemang 5 about 11.30pm.

Four orang asli workers, who were on their way home, stumbled on Tuan Asmadi’s body at about 1am today.

Police investigators, who found a bullet shell casing about 35 metres away in a bush, have not ruled out the possibility that the killer had lured the victim out of his house, via the phone call, with the intent of murdering him.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said, just before the shooting, Tuan Asmadi was with his family in the quarters.

“He then stepped out of the house to take a call when his wife heard a gunshot.

“Upon seeing her husband dead, she ran out of the quarters to hide,” Jalaluddin told a news conference at the Kelantan police headquarters here today.

He said the victim’s brother-in-law lodged a police report at 3.15am after facing some difficulty making a phone call from the plantation.

“At the moment, we have identified two local residents as suspects and the police are tracking them down. We believe the victim knew the suspects,” he said.

Jalaluddin urged those with information on the murder to contact the nearest police station or the Kelantan headquarters at 09-7450999. — Bernama
