Selangor PKR leadership in crisis, says Umno chief
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Selangor needs to be governed by a stable administration that is not embroiled in crisis, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has said.
“It is obvious there is a serious split within the PKR leadership in Selangor.
“If this is not the case, why are there suddenly people resigning from their posts?” the prime minister told reporters today after chairing Umno’s supreme council meeting.
The Umno president was referring to PKR chief strategist Rafizi Ramli’s (picture) resignation as chief executive officer of the Selangor Economic Advisor’s Office as well as recent calls for the Selangor Mentri Besar’s political secretary Faekah Husin to step down from public office.
The post of economic advisor to the Selangor government is held by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR de facto leader.
“People can evaluate, which choice, which party can determine continued stability and confidence,” Najib added.
Rafizi has denied that there were political considerations behind his resignation.
There was speculation that his decision had come about due to a rift between him and Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim pertaining to a free education project in the state and also factionalism within the Selangor PKR leadership.
