KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 – A man, who snatched a handbag from a woman, was chased and knocked down by the victim’s husband before being held by passers-by in Kampung Pandan, Ampang here today.
The victim, who was riding pillion with his husband, got down from the motorcycle and headed for an ATM machine when her handbag was snatched from behind by a motorcyclist, causing her to fall down, said Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan.
He said the victim’s husband chased the suspect for one km before knocking him down in the 8am incident.
“Passers-by came to the aid of the victim’s husband and held the suspect until the police arrived,” he told reporters here today.
Abdul Jalil said the police recovered a handbag and seized a stolen motorcycle from the 24-year-old suspect who was tested positive for drug.
The suspect who claimed that he was fasting had a record of arrests for snatch thefts in Ampang.
Meanwhile, Abdul Jalil said the police were looking for an unemployed man in connection with an assault on his wife and a Nigerian student at Bandar Baru Ampang Apartment at 12.30am yesterday.
The 50-year-old suspect allegedly went to the student’s rented apartment unit with 10 friends and caught his 44-year-old wife and the 35-year old student there, said Abdul Jalil.
“They beat up the duo with sticks and chairs. The wife fractured his right arm while the student broke his nose and left fingers,” he said, adding that the woman was said to have been living with the student since five months ago after sending her five children to the village. – Bernama
