Son gets 14 months’ jail for threatening mum

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — An unemployed man who threatened his mother with a 22-inch knife landed himself a 14-month prison term after pleading guilty to the offence at the Magistrates Court here today.

He was charged under the Penal Code with the criminal intimidation of his mother Ng Kim Lan, 71, at a PPR Flat in Cheras on July 3.   

Magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim also ordered Chin Seow Kan, 39, to serve an additional two months in jail for failing to produce his identity card to the police at the same place and time, with both sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on July 4.  

According to the facts of the case, Chin and his mother had an argument after she refused to give him more than RM30.    

Chin flew into a rage, took the knife from his room and lunged at her.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Loh Wei Dhin prosecuted while Chin was unrepresented. — Bernama
