Succession plan an internal matter, says Taib

May 23, 2012

KUCHING, May 23 — The succession plan for the best candidate to take over the role of chief minister in Sarawak is an internal matter that only concerns the Barisan Nasional (BN), Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said today.

Taib, who is also Sarawak BN chairman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, said he would announce his successor when the right time comes.

“It is our private affair. When the time comes, I will announce it and you (opposition) will see it will be better than the DAP’s succession plan in Kuching,” he said after Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) sought a clarification on his winding-up speech at the state legislative assembly sitting, here.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, Taib (picture) said the criteria of attracting good investment and keeping a good rating to ensure the country did not go downhill was one responsibility that they did not know about.

“That is the kind of politics that you (opposition) are famous for,” said the country’s longest-serving chief minister since 1981, who celebrated his 76th birthday on Monday. — Bernama
