KUALA TERENGGANU, March 10 – Terengganu Customs crippled an attempt to smuggle in ketamine worth RM813,375 by two suspects, at the Sultan Mahmud Airport and Kampung Seberang Takir, on Tuesday.
The two suspects from India, a man and a woman aged 52 and 43, were detained at separate locations at 4pm and 4.10pm on the same day.
Terengganu Customs Enforcement division chief Mat Jusoh Botok said upon inspecting their baggage, two packets of drugs weighing 10.848kg was found hidden in a special compartment.
“Based on information, we kept surveillance of those coming through the arrival hall and detained the 52-year-old woman before finding ketamine weighing 5.08kg in her bag.
“We were also suspicious of another suspect and we trailed him to Kampung Seberang Takir. He had taken a taxi at the airport earlier,” he told reporters, here, today.
Mat Jusoh said after inspecting the luggage of the suspect who had arrived from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, drugs weighing 5.765kg were found.
He said the suspect had taken a flight from Chennai, India and was on transit from Singapore to KLIA before taking another transit flight to Terengganu.
“Their modus operandi is to use international flights and transit to their destination using domestic flights.”
Mat Jusoh said immigration records showed that the woman had travelled to Malaysia seven times before while the man has entered the country 10 times since last year. – Bernama
