Traffic police duo walk free from bribery charges

SEREMBAN, July 13 — The Sessions Court acquitted two traffic policemen here today on three counts of bribery amounting to RM11,450, two years ago.

Judge Datin Nursinah Adzmi concluded that the defence had successfully raised a reasonable doubt on the case against Const Hardy Carlos Anak Pressie, 26, and Lance Corp Manan Buang, 46, of the South Zone Highway Patrol Office (Seremban – Ayer Keroh).

They were charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009, for soliciting and accepting bribes ranging between RM1,150 and RM6,000 from Azni Aziz, to refrain from taking action against him for the possession of fire crackers, fireworks and cigarettes on August 22, 2010 at KM259 of the North-South Highway.

MACC prosecuting officer Mohd Fairuz Johari prosecuted and Raftfizi Zainal Abidin appeared for the policemen. — Bernama
