Tuan Ibrahim said the candidate breakdown was yet to be finalised. — File picKUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — PAS may field up to 60 per cent new faces as candidates in the coming 13th general election.

Party information chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the new faces would be 40 per cent from the Youth and 20 per cent from the Muslimat (women) wings.

“However, the final decision on the choice of candidates has not been made yet.

“The list of candidates has been studied by the PAS (Syura) Consultative Council and is now being scrutinised at the party level,” he said when contacted today.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS would only announce the list of party candidates after parliament had been dissolved.

Asked on the number of parliamentary seats targeted by PAS in the coming general election, Tuan Ibrahim said the party targeted to contest at least 70 seats compared to 60 in the 2008 general election.

“This, too, has not been finalised as we are still discussing the matter with our partners, DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR),” he said.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang on July 1 reportedly said the party wished to contest 88 parliamentary seats in the coming elections. — Bernama
