Two-day remand for Muslim woman in Hari Raya YouTube clip controversy

A screenshot of the A screenshot of the The dog trainer who caused a stir over a YouTube clip of her celebrating Hari Raya with her dogs has been remanded for two days.

Segamat magistrate court registrar Mohd Anuar Ostadi issued the remand order against Maznah Mohd Yusof yesterday. The remand order will end today.

The Star reported that the police had initially sought for a four-day remand order but Maznah’s counsel G. Visvanathan Nair objected to it on the grounds that there was no reason for her to be remanded as she had been detained on Wednesday and had already been questioned by officials from Bukit Aman and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The lawyer said that Maznah had given her full cooperation throughout the investigations and had never denied uploading the clip to YouTube three years ago.

Visvanathan also told reporters that the prosecution would eventually decide whether to charge his client over the clip.

“If she is charged, the court will then decide if the proceedings would be conducted in Segamat or Selangor,” he said, adding that the police took Maznah to Segamat for the remand as the first police report on the YouTube clip was lodged there.

The clip, however, was recorded in Selangor. – August 2, 2013.
