PUTRAJAYA, July 22 — Umno has activated its 6,667 district polling centres across the country in a bid to strengthen the party’s election machinery in view of the upcoming 13th general election.
Umno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan (picture) said the party’s supreme council had recently made the decision to activate the district polling centres in all 191 Umno divisions and 20,000 branches nationwide.
“We have also briefed all state Umno information chiefs to organise various activities throughout the month of Ramadan. Central Umno will give the allocation for the activities, including for breaking of fast and sahur.
“Umno divisional machineries are also ready to face the general election, which will take place anytime soon,” he told reporters after hosting a breaking of fast for orphans at his residence in Precinct 10 here today.
Approximately 100 orphans from various orphanages in Hulu Kelang, Setapak and Gombak were feted at the event.
Ahmad, who is also deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said each Umno division, Wanita, Youth and Puteri, would also adopt one district polling centre to reach out and win the hearts of the voters at the grass root. — Bernama
