Umno prepares to disclose all fatwa-like statements made by PAS leaders
MACHANG, June 9 — Umno is prepared to disclose the fatwa or edict-like statements that have been issued by PAS leaders in their bids to gain the people’s support, Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said.
He said since the issuance of “Amanat Haji Hadi” (Haji Hadi’s Message) in 1981, Kelantan Umno had started making records of oral and written statements made by PAS leaders.
“We have to look back at all the records before we can announce them to the public. We will check who was right and who was wrong about this,” he told reporters after opening the Malaysian Volunteers programme at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) here today.
Mustapa (picture) was commenting on the statement by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who denied having said that those who vote for PAS would secure entry to heaven.
Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan Menteri Besar, was quoted in today’s newspaper as saying that what he said was those who voted for PAS in the 1990 general election would receive ‘pahala’ or divine merit
In Bachok, Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Senator Datuk Awang Adek Hussin said Nik Aziz’s denial was part of his political tricks as the statement had been one of the beliefs of PAS members, not only in Kelantan, but across the country.
“The denial was just a trick and merely superficial as it will only benefit the party,” he said adding that if Nik Aziz was truly sincere, he would have gone to the ground to explain the issue to PAS members. — Bernama
