Umno Youth demands punishment for defilers of PM photos
SERI ISKANDAR, Sept 3 — Umno Youth today urged the Home Ministry to take stern action against participants of “Janji Bersih” Gathering who stepped on a picture of the country’s leader and insulted the Malaysian flag at Dataran Merdeka on the eve of Merdeka Day last Thursday.
Its executive council member, Hisamuddin Yahya, said it was high time for the ministry to take action against those involved in the incident so that it would serve as a deterrent to others.
“Umno Youth wants those involved to be punished accordingly as their disgusting actions have caused anger and uneasiness among the people.
“Why should we be afraid of taking action against them and why should we deny the voice of the peace-loving majority?” he told reporters after meeting with members of Iskandar Perdana Umno protem committee here today.
During the gathering, some of the participants allegedly stepped on a picture of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and waved an alternate design flag, claiming that it was a replacement of the Jalur Gemilang. — Bernama
