Water shortage in Petaling, KL, Hulu Langat, Sepang

June 17, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Several areas in the city, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang are experiencing a water shortage following a drop in water levels in the Semenyih and Langat Balancing Reservoirs over the past two days.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) in a statement here today said the drop in the water level was due to an increase in demand during the hot and dry weather.

In the city, the affected areas are Taman Maluri, Taman Angsana Hilir, Kampung Pandan, Taman Segar and Taman Taynton View.

In Hulu Langat, the areas are Sungai Besi Indah, Bukit Belimbing, Juara Jaya, Saujana Impian, Beranang, Bukit Semenyih, Sungai Tekali, Selesa Jaya, Taman Utama, Alamsari, Balakong, PKNS Beranang and Kampung Baru Semenyih.

Jalan Klang Lama, Sri Petaling, Desa Petaling and most part in Section 52, Petaling Jaya are the affected areas in Petaling.

In Sepang, the only area affected is IOI Serdang.

Syabas said it was prepared to deploy 42 water tankers to the affected areas if necessary.

“Consumers are also advised to use water wisely during the hot and dry weather that is expected to prolong for some time,” the statement said.

At the same time, Syabas also called on the consumers not to organise any activities that could lead to river pollution to ensure a continuous supply of clean water could be channelled to them.
