Zero crime rate is impossible, says Pahang MB
KUANTAN, July 20 — Any country can put its crime rate under control, but to achieve a zero crime rate is impossible, Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said.
He said in Malaysia, the authorities, such as the police, were doing their level best to ensure security in all places, but it was also impossible for them to be at all places at all times.
“Yes we can find cases of robberies and snatch thefts being reported in the newspapers every day, but still Malaysia is the safest country in Southeast Asia, the 4th in the Asia-Pacific region and 19th in the world.”
Adnan (picture) was speaking when opening the Campaign to Prevent Crime Against Women and Children at Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Pei Chai here last night.
He said the statistics also showed that Malaysia was still a safe and peaceful country.
He called on the relevant quarters to increase awareness among women and children about crimes that could befall them and the importance for them to take extra precautions for their personal safety.
He said in this context, a total of 5,600 crime-prevention clubs had been set up in schools and it was hoped that all teachers and parents would give their full co-operation to prevent crimes against the children.
The menteri besar said the crime index in Pahang declined by 13 per cent to 2,870 cases between January and June this year from 3,312 cases reported in the corresponding period last year. — Bernama
