One dead, two warded after Petronas’ Kertih plant fire

DUNGUN, May 10 — One person died and two others remain warded after a fire at the Petronas Gas Processing Plant 3 (GPP3) in Kertih here this evening, Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) said tonight.

PGB confirmed the incident at the pre-treatment unit section of the GPP Complex A at 3pm, and said its Emergency Response Team (ERT) put out the fire 30 minutes later.

Earlier, media reports said four of 10 victims were reported to have have suffered fourth-degree burns and all were sent to the Dungun hospital for treatment.

“PGB however regrets to inform that a number of employees of Hyundai-PFCE Consortium (HPC), which is the contractor servicing the GPP currently under a scheduled maintenance shutdown, were affected by the incident.

“One fatality has been reported while two personnel are still warded at a hospital. The remaining affected personnel have received appropriate medical treatment,” the company said in a statement.
