KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — The Transport Ministry has been urged to intervene to prevent the demolishing of Bukit Bintang Plaza (BB Plaza) here which is seen as strategic business centre for the Malays in the city.

During debate on the Road Transport Act (Amendment Bill) 2012 in the Dewan Rakyat today, Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Ind-Pasir Mas) said besides causing worry among the traders at the plaza, it was also inviting a negative perception among the Malays that their interests are being sidelined.

"The Transport Ministry is involved in the plans to replace the plaza with a MyRapid Transit (MRT)station. As such, whether agree or not, I urge the ministry to step in to prevent the plaza from being torn down," he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan.

Yesterday, UDA Holdings Berhad senior deputy president Syed Ahmad Nazri Syed Kamaruzaman was reported to have said that the plaza located in the commercial hub of the city and began operating in 1979, would have to make way for the city's MRT project. — Bernama
