SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 9 — Aidilfitri will be merrier this year for assistant land officer Mohamad Omar after he was discharged and acquitted of the corruption charges brought against him five years ago.
In his ruling today, Sessions Court Judge Zainol Saad said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Mohamad, 50, who is now attached with the Langkawi Land and District Office.
Mohamad, who was then an assistant land officer at the Kuala Muda Land and District Office, was charged with soliciting RM4,000 in bribe from one K. Rajah at Lot 1100, Mukim Semeling, Sungai Petani at 2.30pm on Oct 23, 2005.
He also faced another charge of soliciting the same amount of money from Rajah at the same place at 2.30pm between Oct 24 and Oct 30, 2005 as inducements to expedite the survey and issuance of title for the land.
Mohamad was represented by Datuk Abdul Halim Said while prosecution was by Abd Ghani Darus of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. — Bernama
