Bumiputera entrepreneurs will have problems if discounts abolished

Jul 29, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — Bumiputera entrepreneurs will have problems setting up business at strategic locations if the proposal to abolish discount for bumiputera to purchase commercial property and luxury homes in Selangor is implemented, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said.

He said if implemented, bumiputera entrepreneurs would only be able to operate their business in the outskirts of towns and the number of Bumiputera ownership of commercial premises costing RM2 million and above in the town areas to drop.

He said this in his blog, www.rembau.net in response to a statement by DAP member of parliament Tony Pua who suggested that the state government abolish the bumiputera discount for purchase of houses costing more than RM500,000 and commercial property costing more than RM2 million.

Khairy said Tony Pua’s claim that properties bought at discounted price by bumiputera were later sold to brokers at a higher price was unacceptable. — Bernama
