Businessman gunned down in hail of bullets

BATU GAJAH, Sept 6 — A businessman was killed after being shot at a dozen times by one of two men on a motorcycle at Taman Mewah, here early today.

Batu Gajah police chief, ACP Najib Mohamad, said Vijayan s/o Krishan, 30, who was wounded at the waist and neck, died at the scene in the 2.40am incident.

Vijayan was said to have gone to a friend’s house, about 3km from his house at Kampung Ara Payung, here, where a wedding ceremony had taken place earlier, Najib told reporters today.

He said Vijayan was at the house for about 30 minutes when a man armed with a pistol fired 12 shots at him. The suspect, who was wearing a crash helmet, then fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice

Vijayan’s body had been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a post-mortem.

Following the incident, police mounted a search which led to the arrest of seven men, aged between 20 and 37, in several locations here.

Police also seized a motorcycle, he added. He said all the suspects would be remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.
