KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 – The Sessions Court here today set September 24 to decide whether five students of the University of Malaya (UM), who were charged with mischief and trespassing the university in June last year, would be called for their defence or acquitted from the charge.
Judge Rozana Ali Yusuff fixed the date after Deputy Public Prosecutor Aidatul Azura Zainal Abidin and defence counsel Mohamad Arfaizi Mohd Ramli concluded their submissions.
The trial, which started in June, closed the case after the last of the 19 prosecution witnesses, Detective Corporal Yaakob Ramli from the Brickfields Police Headquarters, gave his testimony.
Earlier in his submission, Mohd Arfaizi, representing Mohamad Izzuddin Hilmi and Muhammad Syahrul, told the court that the prosecution witness did not see them during the incident.
“This creates a doubt on the accused and it is clear that they had no knowledge of the incident,” he said in the case of the five students from the Faculty of Islamic Studies Academy, who were charged with jointly committing mischief with fire on the building. – Bernama
