IBS for KL public housing

Jul 30, 2010

JOHOR BAHARU, July 30 — The government plans to implement the industrialised building system (IBS) applied by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) at people’s housing projects in Kuala Lumpur.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said IBS had many advantages including reducing the completion period of projects.

“The short completion period will help us to build more people’s housing projects in Kuala Lumpur,” he said after visiting Iskandar Malaysia near here Friday.

He said demand for public housing in Kuala Lumpur was high with some 20,000 families on the waiting list.

Implementation of IBS at Iskandar Malaysia had halved the completion period from 32 months to only 16 months and used only one-third of the workforce.

“IBS will help us to reduce foreign workers. It may cost 10-20 percent higher but it can be reduced,” he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is also a fan of IBS implemented at Iskandar Malaysia wanted it extended to other projects.

Raja Nong Chik said IBS had been implemented at some projects in Kuala Lumpur and hopes to use it in\ developing Kampung Baru. — Bernama
