JAKARTA, Aug 27 — A member of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council Aida Zulaika Nasution Ismeth today stressed that Indonesia and Malaysia should sit together and determine a clear and concrete sea border solution, reported China’s Xinhua news agency.
“All these years, some of border areas of Indonesia and its neighbouring countries are based on boundary agreement results between colonial governments of Dutch and England hundred years ago,” Aida Zulaika said.
“International law progress after the period, is not fully obeyed by the parties,” the Council member said.
Tensions between Indonesia and Malaysia have been rising recently following the detention of three Indonesian officials from the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries last week, who were released earlier this week.
Angry Indonesians staged protests almost daily in front of Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta in recent days.
Malaysia has also issued a travel advisory for its citizens who want to visit Indonesia. — Bernama
