KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Hundreds of students from various public higher institutions (IPTAs) held a protest against any interference in campus election at Dataran Merdeka here today.
They included members of the Malaysian Students Solidarity, Coalition of Malaysian Islamic Students, and Malaysia Youth and Students Democratic Movement.
Pro-Mahasiswa National chairman Edikoup Lakip Sediyanto said the students submitted six demands related to campus elections, namely fixing of the election date, students’ involvement in managing campus elections, monitoring, freedom in campaigning, transparency in the voting system, and an allocation for candidates.
“Therefore, we hope the campus elections this time around will be monitored and rated on their transparency,” said Edikoup.
Campus elections will be held at 20 IPTAs from next week.
Meanwhile, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah urged IPTA students to take part in campus elections in the best possible manner. — Bernama
