KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — Police confirmed that Khalil Afandi Hamid and a woman who went amok while wielding samurai swords at the entrance of the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya on Monday, had acted on their own and were not connected to any deviant religious group.

“The investigation so far, found that he had acted on his own and claimed himself to be the messiah, Imam Mahadi, and there was no involvement of any deviant religious group,” said Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah when contacted.

However, a 39-year-old man has been remanded until this Sunday to assist in the police investigation, as he is believed to be Khalil Afandi’s online chat friend and had allegedly supported his religious views.

On Monday at about 2.30pm, Khalil Afandi, 47, and his 28-year-old woman companion went berserk at the entrance of Complex B of the Prime Minister’s Department while wielding two samurai swords and a meat cleaver.

In the incident, Khalil Afandi died while being taken to Putrajaya Hospital after he was by police, while the woman, a graduate of the International Islamic University, suffered a gunshot wound in her right thigh. — Bernama
