KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — A Vietnamese court has jailed two Malaysians for using fake credit cards and passports to steal money.
Pan Buang Seng, 24, and Tan Yong Soon, 30, were sentenced to 30 and 24 months jail, respectively, by the Ba Ria Vung Tau People’s Court on Monday.
The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported that the duo were put on trial on Monday, in Ba Ria Vung Tau, located in the country’s southeastern region coast.
It said that Pan and Tan received fake credit cards and passports from another Malaysian, who was living in Ho Chi Minh City, after they entered Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat Airport on August 24, last year.
The duo agreed to use them to fraudulently withdraw money, in return for 10 per cent of the spoils.
A day later, they went to Vung Tau and used the counterfeit cards to withdraw US$10,275 (RM32,880) from their hotel’s automated teller machines and handed over US$8,000 to the Malaysian.
VNA said the Ba Ria Vung Tau police took just a day to track down and arrest Pan and Tan. — Bernama
