SHAH ALAM, Sept 1 – Three suspected international drug smugglers have been detained by police in connection with two seizures of syabu worth RM4 million.
The seizures of the drug, also known as “ice” and weighing 15.8kg, were carried out at the KL International Airport (KLIA) yesterday and Monday.
The men, comprising two Turks and an Iranian, will be remanded for a week to facilitate investigations into an international network of syabu smugglers.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief (narcotics) Superintendent Abd Razak Md Zin said in the 10am operation on Monday, the police nabbed the two Turks at the KLIA arrival hall and found 13.8kg of syabu worth RM3.5 million.
“Initial investigations revealed the duo had travelled to two countries, prior to their arrest... this is their first trip in Malaysia,” he told reporters at the Selangor police contingent headquarters here.
He said the police seized US$570 (about RM1,794) from the suspects, aged 18 and 26.
About 9.30am yesterday, the police picked up a 26-year-old Iranian and seized a plastic package containing two kilogrammes of syabu worth RM500,000 at the KLIA arrival hall. – Bernama
