LOS ANGELES, July 30 — As part of the celebration of Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday year, a new collection of the legendary singer’s biggest hits, titled “Viva ELVIS — The Album”, will include reinterpretations by Cirque du Soleil from its musical show in Las Vegas. The recording will be released in November.
A selection of the track listings includes “Burning Love,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and “It’s Now or Never.” The Viva ELVIS show, a staged tribute by Cirque du Soleil to his music and life which opened this year, performs Elvis’s songs as if the King of Rock’n’Roll were still alive, including influences from punk rock to hip hop.
The album’s producer, Erich van Tourneau, the musical director for Viva ELVIS, spent hours researching Elvis’s recordings, films, concerts and interviews, creating more than 17,000 samples and incorporating sequences and sounds into the re-imagined tracks.
The updated sound intends to “evoke the soul and spirit of Elvis Presley,” said van Tourneau, “while building a bridge between his music and future generations of fans.”
The album is set for release this November from Sony’s Legacy Recordings. A “first listen” to songs from Viva ELVIS — The Album is scheduled for upcoming Elvis Week, on August 14.
Elvis Week, an annual event at Graceland, Elvis’s former home in Memphis, Tennessee occurs on August 10-16.
Events include the Ultimate Tribute Artist Contest concerts, film screenings, book signings, meet-and-greets with Elvis “insiders,” art shows, tours, a candlelight vigil, and a performance by Cirque du Soleil. — Relaxnews
