The action scenes on Michigan Avenue along the Chicago River show the destruction of downtown with bombs blowing on high-rises, crashing and flipping vehicles, boats on fire, mangled steel and flying concrete, helicopters travelling between buildings, and soldiers defending the streets, parachuting down from rooftops.
Stars Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel are shown in action as well as in shots with fans. Amateur videos have been uploaded on the director’s website, including television news reports with Bay.
The director revealed to local newspaper Chicago Sun-Times that the Chicago scenes come near the climax of the movie when the city is under alien attack close to the end. “I like to think of it as the ‘Black Hawk Down’ version of ‘Transformers’,” he said.
This third and supposedly last film in ‘The Transformers’ franchise follows the adventures of the Autobots and Decepticons, centring on the space race between the US and Soviet-era Russia and ensuing battles. Shockwave will be the main villain, Bay told national newspaper USA Today.
After Chicago, the production moves to Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington DC’s National Mall, Milwaukee, Texas, and Florida for the space shuttle launch, as well as international locations, including Moscow and China.
Other actors involved include Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro, both in the previous films, as well as Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Frances McDormand.
The film is being shot with 3D cameras. It is scheduled for release on July 1, 2011 in Real 3D. — Relaxnews
