Time Out London goes free

LONDON, Aug 5 — Tourists and Londoners will be able to get Time Out London for free starting this autumn. The weekly publication which includes information on restaurants, museums, festivals, films, clubs and bars among others is joining the list of free titles in the city.

Time Out London is currently sold with a cover prices of £3.25 (around RM16.25). With this move, its circulation of 55,000 is expected to be boosted to 300,000. The new, slimmer version of the weekly cultural guide will be distributed by a team of 200 people across central London’s underground and mainline rail stations. Time Out will also be available at cultural spots such as the Tate Modern, bar, cafes, boutiques and shops.

The publication started in 1968 with a circulation of barely 5,000. Today more than half of its circulation (32,000) is made up of subscriptions, and only between 10,000 and 12,000 copies are sold on newsstands for a full cover price. Subscribers will be charged a postage fee.

Time Out London has a website and iPhone and iPad apps, the company also publishes 19 books about London, such as London for Londoners and London Top 100. Only Time Out London magazine is to go free, other Time Out weekly magazines will continue to operate within their cities under their current model. — AFP/Relaxnews
