Depp wins MTV’s Generation Award, plays with Black Keys

Johnny Depp was awarded MTV’s 2012 Generation Award. – AFP picLOS ANGELES, June 4 – Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards, June 3, to present a special 2012 Generation Award to honoree Johnny Depp.

A montage of clips was aired from Depp’s repertoire of films, spanning from Edward Scissorhands to Alice in Wonderland and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Tyler called the actor “a rock star in the world of movies” and introduced Depp, who played guitar, joining the rockers of The Black Keys on stage performing the bluesy “Gold on the Ceiling.”

Perry praised the actor’s many talents and way of reinventing himself numerous times from leading man to outsider and rebel.

When Depp accepted the golden popcorn trophy, he suggested, “It’s like the get-out-of-the-business award, you’ve done too much.”

“Based on the clips, there’s obviously something wrong with me,” said Depp. “I just thank you very much.” He also thanked the veteran rockers and “up-and-coming legends.”

With an emphasis on music at the 2012 MTV’s Movie Awards, other performers included indie pop band fun. performing “We Are Young,” plus MC Wiz Khalifa and DJ Martin Solveig as the house act.
