The action-jammed thriller set in the explosive drug world follows a couple of California marijuana dealers approached to partner with a Mexican drug cartel. When they refuse the offer, things take a turn from mellow to savage.

Opening with a chilling voice-over saying, “Just because I'm telling you this story doesn't mean that I'm alive at the end of it,” the intense footage is reminiscent of Oscar winner Stone's Natural Born Killers.

Based on Don Winslow's best-selling crime novel, the trailer shows their shared girlfriend (Blake Lively) get kidnapped, the dirty Federal agent (Travolta) get stabbed, and the drug dealers – one a Buddhist and one a former Navy Seal – seek revenge.

The strong ensemble cast includes Oscar nominee Mexico's Demian Bichir, Benicio Del Toro (The Wolfman), Aaron Johnson (Kiss-Ass) and Uma Thurman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians).

Savages opens July 6 in North America, followed by France in August, Australia, Germany, the UK and Spain in September, and then Russia, Argentina, Scandinavian markets and more through November. — AFP-Relaxnews
