Guy Ritchie to direct ‘Treasure Island’ film adaptation

June 05, 2012

LOS ANGELES, June 5 — Guy Ritchie (picture) seems to have taken the reins from Paul Greengrass to direct a new movie adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate novel Treasure Island, according to Deadline.com.

Ritchie, who successfully brought Sherlock Holmes back to the big screen, will delve into another classic of 19th century British literature with this new adventure movie. Stevenson's novel was first published in 1881, and since then the pirate tale has generated numerous film adaptations, notably by Victor Fleming and Raoul Ruiz.

Although Guy Ritchie's name has been linked to the upcoming Warner Bros production, the director is currently working on an adaptation of the 1960s spy television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and will likely follow up with a third Sherlock Holmes film, with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role. — AFP-Relaxnews
