James Gandolfini of ‘The Sopranos’ in new HBO series
LOS ANGELES, Sept 21 — James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano in the hit television show, is coming back to the HBO network in his new project, Criminal Justice.
Last seen on the small screen in 2007 for the Sopranos finale, James Gandolfini (picture) will portray one of the lead protagonists in Criminal Justice, a series based on the English mini-series of the same name, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original version of the show, broadcast from 2008 to 2009 on BBC One, delved into the British legal system, with each season, spanning five episodes, following the tribulations of a defendent from arrest to trial.
The US version will recycle the plotline from the British show's first season, tinkering with a few details. James Gandolfini will portray a lawyer defending a young man of Pakistani descent who is accused of murdering a woman. His character will be back after the first five episodes if the show is renewed for more seasons.
Production will start this fall in New York City with Steven Zaillian (who earned an Oscar for his script of Schindler's List in 1994) as a director, Zaillian will also share scriptwriting duties with Richard Price (The Color of Money). — AFP-Relaxnews
