Rumors about Carrey's involvement have been around since mid-August, but they have now been confirmed in the press. The actor is set to play Colonel Stars, a former criminal and born-again Christian turned real-life super-hero in the sequel titled Kick-Ass: Balls to the Wall.

The film will once again be based on Mark Millar's comics after the first installment, directed by Matthew Vaughn, hit the silver screens to resounding success in 2010. Vaughn being tied up at the moment with the shooting of the follow-up to X-Men: First Class, Jeff Wadlow (Cry Wolf, Never Black Down) is taking over to direct the movie.

In the sequel, Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl will try to derail Red Mist's evil plan to avenge his father's death. Aaron Johnson, Chloë Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will be back in their previous roles. — AFP-Relaxnews
