LOS ANGELES, March 19 – Superman: Man of Steel, the latest reboot film of the iconic superhero, has cast Clark Kent’s parents. Kevin Costner will portray Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane will play Martha Kent who raise Superman on earth.
Henry Cavill (Stardust) will play Superman as well as his meek human persona, Clark Kent. Viggo Mortensen (The Road) is rumored to possibly play the villain, General Zod.
The director Zack Snyder (300, Watchman, Legend of the Guardians), told the Los Angeles Times, “We’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies.” He added that the film will “respect the canon” of the superhero but not be a slave to previous films from the 1940s, 1978-1987 and 2006.
Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight) co-wrote and will co-produce the film.
Costner won the Oscar for Dances With Wolves, and starred in The Untouchables, Field of Dreams, JFK, Bull Durham, and more. Diane Lane has starred in Secretariat, Under the Tuscan Sun and Unfaithful.
Production is set to start in Vancouver, BC, Canada this summer for release December 2012. – AFP
