McConaughey and Tatum strip in ‘Magic Mike’
Still from ‘Magic Mike’ — AFP picLOS ANGELES, April 19 — The first trailer for Magic Mike, starring Matthew McConaughey (Lincoln Lawyer) and Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, 21 Jump Street), was released April 18.
The story set in the world of male strippers is loosely based on actor Channing Tatum’s personal experience. It follows an exotic dancer called The Kid who is mentored by Magic Mike in the art of partying and making money.
The footage shows Mike caught between his work and lifestyle and the pursuit of love. McConaughey’s character, a former stripper, now owns the club Xquisite.
This comedy, a gender reversal from the typical stripper films, is directed by Steven Soderbergh (Contagion, Oceans Thirteen), who easily flips between commercial Hollywood hits to small independent films.
Magic Mike opens on June 28-29 in Russia and North America, followed by the UK, the Netherlands and Australia in July and France and Germany in August.
