Meet Cyril’s magical grandma
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 – Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it is just Grandma Magi, a sorceress who is the lovely grandmother of street illusionist Cyril Takayama.
“Standing” about 10.9 metres above ground and leaning on a lamp post in front of Pavilion, Bukit Bintang, Grandma Magi was a sight to behold yesterday afternoon. Curious shoppers took photographs on their smartphones and tourists snapped photos of the amazing feat by Grandma Magi. For 45 minutes in the Malaysian heat, Grandma Magi waved to the crowd, spoke on her mobile phone and teased the crowd.
“Don’t take photos up my skirt,” she quipped. This stunt was to promote Cyril’s latest television show on AXN, “Cyril’s Family Vacation: Hawaii Edition!” that will be airing on AXN (Astro Channel 701) and AXN HD (Astro Channel 721) June 7, 2012 at 9pm.
Follow the antics of this “magical” family which consists of Cyril, Grandma Magi, Uncle Richard and Cousin Tiny as they wow the people of Hawaii with their brand of street magic. If you are wondering why they all share the same piercing eyes, catch the show to find out what’s the secret!
Grandma Magi enjoys eating flowers, shopping and hitting on younger men while Uncle Richard is like an older version of Cyril, a Casanova who enjoys golf and a cigar. Cousin Tiny is on a diet mission in Oahu, but his favourite magic trick is making food disappear!
If you don’t know who Cyril is, he’s the world’s first “cyber magician”, gaining popularity across the world via YouTube with 100 million views to date. He was voted Magician of the Year at the Magical Arts Awards in 2007, with David Copperfield and Seigfreid & Roy as past winners.
Since 2009, he has been in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia’s AXN network for an English language television special titled “Cyril, Simply Magic” for the Asian market.
