Music, music, music… in Penang

Mu will be performing Portueguese folk music. Mu will be performing Portueguese folk music. GEORGE TOWN, March 10 — The Quarry Park at the Penang Botanic Gardens will once again be filled with the wondrous tunes of traditional folk music from all over the world this March 30 and 31.

The Penang World Music Festival, this will be its second consecutive year after a short hiatus, will feature a total of 12 bands including two from Malaysia.

The festival, which attracted more than 10,000 visitors last year, is set against the background of lush tropical rainforest and held in an open-air park, much like the annual Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak.

Apart from the concert, there will also be workshops with the musicians.

These workshops will allow the public to participate and learn more about the folk music and various instruments used by the bands.

The annual event is jointly organised by the Penang state tourism development and culture office and managed by UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd.

Tickets to the festival can now be purchased here. Tickets are RM80 per day for adults and RM30 per day for children.
