Ralph Lauren to fund cancer research facility

The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research will be housed in a new facility at The Royal Marsden’s Chelsea hospital.

Staffed by a team of world-renowned clinicians and scientists working with the latest in cancer research technology, the centre will be dedicated to advancing breast cancer research with the goal of improving early diagnosis and the development of new treatments for breast cancer.

“Fighting breast cancer has been a long-standing goal of mine,” said Ralph Lauren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ralph Lauren Corporation.

“I am so pleased and honoured for our Company to partner with The Royal Marsden, a truly remarkable institution with a global reputation for ground-breaking research and pioneering the very latest in cancer treatments and technologies. It is my great hope that this partnership advances cancer treatment options and outcomes for patients around the world.”

The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research will take up a whole floor in the historic Royal Marsden hospital which will be developed to the highest specification to provide a world-class facility for breast cancer research.

The Centre’s overall goal will be to identify molecular differences between tumours that allow the optimal treatment of individual breast cancer patients and thereby reduce recurrence and mortality from the disease as well as eliminate unnecessary toxicity.

It continues the pioneering work carried out at The Royal Marsden into personalised medicine, translating advances in the molecular profiling of breast cancer into major improvements in personalised breast cancer treatment.
