Samuel L. Jackson, media magnate in ‘Robocop’

June 08, 2012

LOS ANGELES, June 8 — The cast of the Robocop remake is filling out with the arrival of Samuel L. Jackson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson (recently seen as Nick Fury in Marvel productions including “The Avengers”) will take on the role of an influential media tycoon named Pat Novak in the futuristic, high-security world of “Robocop.” Gary Oldman has already been cast in one of the other main roles.

As for the title role, it has been given to Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman. Kinnaman will follow in the footsteps of Peter Weller, who appeared in the original 1987 film as Alex Murphy, a policeman killed in the line of duty, who is revived and transformed into a cyborg.

Shooting will begin in September with Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha directing. Padilha, who made his international mark with “Elite Squad” — which won the 2008 Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival — is set to bring “Robocop,” a story that first took cinematic shape under the eye of Paul Verhoeven, to a new generation in summer 2013. — AFP/Relaxnews
