Santa Barbara Film Fest award to Robert De Niro

LOS ANGELES, Oct 17 — Robert De Niro (picture) has been chosen as the 2012 recipient of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, the SBIFF announced today.

The annual honour, which in the past has gone to the likes of Michael Douglas, Quentin Tarantino and Harrison Ford, is one of the first awards in what might be called the flip side of awards season, in which publicity campaigns are given boosts by lifetime achievement awards and special citations from the likes of the Santa Barbara and Palm Springs Film Festivals. — Reuters
