Brooklyn-based artist Van Etten's Tramp, released this week, is her follow-up to 2010’s Epic. She was last a hot topic in the blogs with the release of the album’s first single last year, a track called "Serpents" featuring The National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner, The Walkmen's Matt Barrick, Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner, and Doveman's Thomas Bartlett. "Drawing on other avant-garde type female vocalists like Cat Power and Joanna Newson, Van Etten dips and swings through society’s woes as effortlessly as a bird in the sky," writes blogger Listen Before You Buy.
Rising "noir-pop" act Veronica Falls was last in the blogs with the release of a self-titled debut last year. In recent days, the band released a new track titled "My Heart Beats" to coincide with a North American tour. "The song is sunnier than what they normally do but still fits within their sound," reviews blogger Brooklyn Vegan.
