LOS ANGELES, Aug 29 — Following a legendary tradition, the famous Friars Club has chosen its next victim — film director Quentin Tarantino — for the annual honor that can only be fully appreciated by someone who can laugh at himself. The 2010 Friars Club Roast, October 1, will occur at The New York Hilton in Manhattan.
The club announced the event’s ‘Roastmaster’ will be actor Samuel L. Jackson, who appeared in Pulp Fiction. “Having known Quentin as long as I have now, there are many stories I’ve kept tucked away for a moment like this,” he said in the press release. “I’m not so sure he won’t regret asking me once the afternoon is over!”
Others on the dais set to make fun of the director are other actors who have worked on his films, including Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), and producers Eli Roth and Harvey Weinstein, Rob Schneider (Grown Ups), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar), and comedian Sarah Silverman will also participate among others.
The Oscar-winning director (picture), writer and producer of films such as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds, has also received a Golden Globe and Palme D’Or Award from the Cannes Film Festival.
Founded in 1904, past recipients of Friars Club roasts are Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr., Jerry Lewis, Richard Pryor, Bruce Willis, and Whoopi Goldberg.
