‘The Avengers’ on TV in ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’

A second 'Avengers' movie is in the pipeline for 2015. — Reuters pic LOS ANGELES, Aug 31 — ABC has ordered a pilot episode of a TV series dedicated to Marvel superheroes supervised by “The Avengers’” screenwriter and director, Joss Whedon.

ABC wants to make the most of the “The Avengers’” success on the big screen — the American TV channel gave its go-ahead to a “S.H.I.E.L.D” pilot episode, starring the Marvel’s superheroes.

Joss Whedon, who wrote and directed Avengers, was recruited to supervise the show featuring Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor and Captain America. The creator of TV series “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” may also direct the show.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet, however, filming is to start soon.

In the Marvel Comics universe, S.H.I.E.L.D. is Nick Fury’s unit comprising Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk and Thor, who unite to stop Thor’s adopted brother Loki.

Released on May 4, “The Avengers” became the third biggest movie in the history of cinema after “Avatar” and “Titanic”, with US$1.46 billion (RM4.55 billion) in revenues.
