Ninth on Amazon’s US soundtrack chart thanks to pre-sales, the 13-track album contains “Live to Rise” by Soundgarden featured at the end credits of the film. The album hits stores internationally on Polydor Records May 7.

“When the opportunity arose to write an original song for ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ film, we thought it could be a cool match,” the Soundgarden stated, announcing it’s working on a new album planned for a fall 2012 release. After selling 21 million records, the band officially reunited in 2010 and have been headlining festivals.

Others songs on the album, subtitled Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture, include “Breath,” by Scott Weiland, frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, “Into the Blue” by Bush, “A New Way to Bleed” by Evanescence, as well as music by Rise Against, Shinedown and Redlight King.

Already a hit movie around the world, The Avengers releases this weekend in North America. Marvel’s Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow join forces to save the world.

Based on Marvel’s The Avengers comic book series, first published in 1963, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, and Samuel L. Jackson. It is directed by Joss Whedon.

In addition, Marvel is offering US fans a chance to create an Avengers remix, by visiting YouTube.com/AvengersRemix and following instructions for choosing clips and songs and using edit tools. Once the video has been published, fans can post and share their link. —AFP-Relaxnews
