Top 10 VOD films in the US: ‘The Vow’ claims the top spot

Poster of ‘The Vow’. — AFP picLOS ANGELES, May 23 — The week’s top watched video-on-demand (VOD) films were announced Monday by Rentrak, based on data collected over the period May 7-13, with The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes) and Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe) in first place.

Newly released to VOD on May 8, the romantic drama follows a young couple whose lives are changed by a car accident. Also released May 8, Underworld: Awakening, the horror fantasy sequel, starring Kate Beckinsale, grabbed the second spot.

The action crime thriller Contraband starring Mark Wahlberg slipped from first to third place, while the biopic drama The Iron Lady with Meryl Streep and the comedy The Sitter starring Jonah Hill left the list.

Holdovers include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which has remained for two months, as well as New Year’s Eve with an all-star ensemble cast featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and Ashton Kutcher, Joyful Noise, the musical comedy with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

According to Rentrak’s OnDemand Essentials, the top ten most-viewed titles follow:

3. Contraband

4. Joyful Noise

5. New Year’s Eve

6. Haywire

7. Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol

8. Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

9. We Bought a Zoo

10. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

On Amazon’s Instant Video ranking, Mad Men, the Golden Globe winning series about the 1960s ad biz with Jon Hamm, remains the top television VOD, holding four of the ten places on the chart.

Another AMC channel hit, The Killing, the American version of Denmark’s hit crime series, holds the second spot, along with Sherlock, the modern take on the classic detective stories starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Supernatural and the Nickelodeon anime series The Legend of Korra. — AFP-Relaxnews
