Recycling BN’s ‘winnable’ candidates — Tan Teck Huat

February 29, 2012

FEB 29 — So much for talent rejuvenation. It says much about Umno’s talent pool of “winnable” candidates when it has to recycle politicians like Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as MPs.

This is a prime minister who will go down as probably the worst in Malaysian history and someone for all his “I am the leader of all Malaysians” talk, molly-coddled Umno and ruled when race relations worsened.

He was given the biggest mandate by trusting Malaysians and then performed so poorly than even his so-called “legacies” such as the MACC and the “revitalised” judiciary is a joke. And yet Umno wants him to contest for his Kepala Batas seat in Penang again.

What, the party can’t find one person below 70-years old who can pass through a MACC corruption check?

It does say a lot about the state of mind of Najib Razak that he is recycling the old timers to ensure Umno stays in power. I am surprised he is doing that because his public pronouncements and his pr agents at the Star are confident of a big win for BN in the coming polls.

So maybe behind that broad grin and RM500 gifts, he may not be that confident.

Anyway, congratulations to Abdullah and his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin. The moral of the story in Umno is that if you stick around long enough, you will get rewarded, even if you performed miserably in the top job in the country and that you are a political chameleon.

What a political party. And we have been subservient to this party for more than 50 years. That says much about what a spineless bunch we are.
