When a father sues his children — Soo Lim Chee

May 27, 2012

MAY 27 — If a father takes his children to court, the community will perceive the family as dysfunctional.

If a government takes its citizens to court, the public will perceive that the country is dysfunctional.

If a father treats some of his children as enemies, the home will have no peace.

If a government treats some of its citizens as enemies, the country will have no peace.

As a responsible father cares for his children, good or bad, a responsible government cares for its citizens, good or bad .

That they came as peaceful citizens to attend the Bersih 3.0 demonstration is irrefutable. They came, each with his/her two bare hands. Hands that have helped to build our nation. That there was no premeditated violence is indisputable. They came only to deliver an important message, not to break the law. They came to shake the hands of police enforcers whom they consider as brothers and sisters.

Why then doesn’t the government reach out with its own hands to feel the pulse of the rakyat? Many among those, including Marina Mahathir, who were present at Bersh 3.0 are the good ones.

The government leaders ignore this at their own peril.

It is never too late to withdraw the lawsuit against the 10 Bersih leaders and engage with them. That forgiving father has everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Barisan Nasional will gain more votes as a result.
