40-gold target at SEA Games achievable, says Amiruddin

The 40-gold medal target set by the National Sports Council and Olympic Council of Malaysia for the Malaysian contingent competing in the 27th Myanmar SEA Games is achievable, said Chef de Mission Datuk Wira Amiruddin Che Embi.

Amiruddin said as of yesterday, Malaysia had collected 30 gold medals and with three more days to go before the curtains are drawn, Malaysia should be able to capture the remaining 10 gold medals to achieve the target.

"God willing... we will reach the target as the athletes are showing a lot of determination. They will go all out to fulfil the prayers of all Malaysians back home," he told Bernama.

Malaysia are sixth in the medal standings with 30 gold, 30 silver and 55 bronze medals. The remaining 10 are expected to come from sailing, diving, athletics, Muay Thai and a number of other sports, he said.

Malaysia's gold medal hopes will also hinge on hockey (men's and women's), football and taekwondo. - Bernama, December 19, 2013.
