KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 – Malaysian squash queen and world number one Datuk Nicol David advanced to the semi-finals of the 2013 Cleveland Classic Squash Championships after outclassing compatriot Low Wee Wern yesterday.
According to a squash website, the 29-year-old Nicol defeated Wee Wern in straight set 12-10, 11-6 and 11-9 in the quarterfinals held at the Cleveland Racquet Club in Ohio, United States.
Malaysia’s number two Wee Wern enters the quarterfinals after defeating Rachael Grinham of Australia in straight set of 11-4, 11-4 and 11-6 on Saturday.
Nicol will be meeting Ireland’s Madeline Perry, who defeated fourth seed Joelle King of New Zealand 3-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-3 and 11-5, in tomorrow’s semi-finals.
In another quarterfinal match, competition’s third seed Alison Waters of England defeated Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini 11-9, 11-2 and 11-7.
Alison will be playing against world number two Raneem El Weleily of Egypt, who cruised to the semi-finals after defeating Hong Kong’s Annie Au 11 -3, 11-6 and 12-10. – Bernama
